Holcim selects GreenWay as Strategic Partner in Electrifying Heavy Duty Mining Equipment

05.08.2025

Holcim, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of construction materials, is partnering with GreenWay to lead one of the largest eHDV electrification projects in the region. The investment includes the development of dedicated charging infrastructure for heavy electric machinery operating in demanding industrial environments – such as mines, grinding plants, cement factories, and industrial ports.

The construction and mining sectors are considered difficult to reduce emissions in, and this investment is one of the first efforts to electrify this space.

The project launched in 2025 and it stands out for its scope and the scale of electrification in this sector. To this day, GreenWay has commissioned four different Holcim locations in Poland, with three more already in the design phase. The total capacity of the infrastructure deployed to date is 1.3 MW, and will ultimately be expanded to 3 MW. Each charging point offers a charging capacity of up to 400 kW. The project is an ongoing development – the infrastructure will be gradually implemented at other Holcim locations across Poland.

GreenWay is responsible for delivering the full scope of the charging solution– from a technical audit and concept development, through the preparation of the necessary design documentation, the construction of power connections and transformer stations, to the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the charging stations, and their subsequent management. The infrastructure being created is intended exclusively for Holcim's electric machines – wheel loaders, excavators, and dump trucks, which can weigh up to 100 tons with a payload.

Because the charging infrastructure will be used extensively under very demanding conditions the proper setup, and ongoing management, of the charging stations is very important.

Infrastructure Tailored to Heavy Industry

As part of Holcim's investment, the charging stations are installed in dust-resistant containers mounted on special foundations. The power supply systems are also equipped with liquid cooling. The entire project has been designed with maximum safety in mind – for both employees and the infrastructure itself.

 - Implementing a project in such difficult conditions as mines, grinding plants, or cement plants is a completely different challenge than our daily implementations – even those carried out in factories or logistics centers,- comments Aleksander Czapczyk, Chief Commercial Officer at GreenWay Group. - Good technology is not enough. We need solutions that are resistant to extreme conditions and comply with rigorous safety procedures. This is an important direction in which electromobility is developing – after logistics, we are entering heavy industry, where solutions that have simply not been available on the market before are needed.

Supporting Holcim's Sustainable Development Goals

Holcim is a global leader in the construction materials industry, present in 45 countries, employing over 48,000 people, and listed on the Swiss stock exchange. The group, formed through the merger of Lafarge and Holcim, is one of the world's leading producers of construction materials, including cement, concrete, and aggregates, with annual revenues exceeding 27 billion Swiss francs. In Poland, it operates as a producer of innovative and sustainable construction materials, including concrete, cement, and aggregates, supporting infrastructure and industrial investments throughout the country.

As a strategic partner, GreenWay supports Holcim in achieving its ambitious goals related to reducing CO2 emissions in transport by providing solutions enabling efficient and safe charging of electric equipment in challenging industrial environments.

 - Reducing emissions in our operations isn't just a matter of ambition, but of a specific action plan that we're implementing step by step -  says Michał Głowacki, General Manager of Aggregates at Holcim Polska. - Electrifying the fleet and building dedicated infrastructure are important elements of this plan. We wanted reliable solutions that would perform well in a demanding work environment while also being ready for further development. That's why we chose to partner with GreenWay.
